Prism testing
Prisms bend light, changing the object’s position. Because of this
property, they are commonly used to detect and measure strabismus (turned
or crossed eye). While the patient is staring at an object, prisms of increasing
strength are placed over the turned eye until it is aligned with the fellow
eye. The stronger the prism that is required to align the eyes, the greater
the eye turn.
